Earlier this week TreeHouse Foods, Inc. recalled several varieties of frozen waffles due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. According to the Food and Drug Administration, that recall has now expanded to include frozen pancakes following additional testing. The frozen waffles were distributed across the United States and Canada. They were sold at popular retailers including Target, Publix and Walmart under various store brand names, as well as private label brands. There is also a list with photos of the affected products that you can check against what you have in your freezer. The Listeria contamination was discovered after routine testing occurred at the company’s manufacturing facility. Symptoms of Listeria infections include fever, vomiting, nausea, headaches and neck stiffness. Elderly people, young children, those with weakened immune systems and people who are pregnant are most at risk of life-threatening illness due to Listeria. Fortunately, there have been no reported illnesses due to the contamination. If you experience symptoms of Listeria infection after consuming any of the recalled waffles, you should contact your health care provider. If you have purchased any of the listed products, you are advised to return them to the place of purchase.
