EatingWell's Editorial Guidelines Close Photo: Getty Images The U.S. Food & Drug Administration just announced a voluntary recall of all canned coffee products made by Snapchill LLC that are still within their expiration dates because the company’s manufacturing process may not prevent the growth and production of botulism, a potentially deadly toxin. The recall is voluntary because, to date, no illnesses have been reported. Snapchill was contacted by the FDA, notifying them that the process they use to can the coffee was not filed with the FDA, as is required by regulation. Botulism is a potentially deadly illness. Symptoms can show up anywhere from six hours to two weeks after ingesting contaminated food. Symptoms of botulism include generalized weakness, dizziness, double-vision, trouble speaking or swallowing, difficulty breathing, muscle weakness, bloating and constipation. If you exhibit any of the symptoms of botulism, seek medical attention immediately. The Snapchill coffee cans were distributed nationwide in sizes ranging from 7 oz. to 12 oz. Snapchill produces and distributes a wide variety of coffee brands, including Cape Cod Coffee, Coffee Hound, Knowledge Perk and Vivid (see full list below). If your coffee was canned by Snapchill, you will find "Produced and distributed by Snapchill LCC" underneath the nutrition facts label. Some of the products also have "Snapchill Coffee" on the label. If you have any of the affected coffee products, it is recommended that you dispose of them or return them to Snapchill or from where you bought them for a full refund. You can also request a refund by emailing photos of the product and proof of purchase (i.e. copy of the receipt) to compliance@Snapchill.com.
